Resurfacing 17th Street

The second phase of the project progressed well. It is expected that 17th Street will be passable in both directions beginning Friday, Dec. 20, 2013.

  • Light poles and landscaping in the medians will be added as weather allows.
  • As much as six weeks of work will be needed to finalize the effort, expected to begin in March of 2014.

Before construction began, 17th Street, from College Avenue looking toward MacVicar Avenue, looked like this:

On June 3, three weeks after the project began, this was the view from College Avenue looking toward Washburn Avenue:

June 3, 2013 progress -- street is in pieces, dirt visible, heavy equpment present.

Businesses in the area of 17h and Washburn remain open, including PT's Coffee, which is pictured below. The visitor parking lot in front of Morgan Hall also remains open. Enter that lot from 17th Street just west of College Avenue.

Construction of 17th Street is underway. Here, broken concrete is moved by heavy equipment.

Rain the week of June 28 made the project a muddy job.
