Ichabods & Lady Blues Home Turf
Ichabods football and Lady Blues soccer call Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl home turf. Moore Bowl opened in 1928 (named for George Godfrey Moore, an enthusiastic Washburn supporter). Yager Stadium was established after a major renovation in 2003. It is named for Gary Yager, an Ichabods running back from 1972- 75. An anonymous donor pledged $1 million in Yager’s name. Bernie Bianchino, who played football from 1966-69, gave the first sizable gift for the stadium renovation and Bianchino Pavilion was named in recognition. The Pavilion includes sky box suites, a press box and booster room. Trivia: Ichabods football has a storied history. Among its claims to fame is the first forward pass, said to have been thrown in a Christmas Day game in 1905 against Fairmont University (now Wichita State). Both schools say their team threw the pass.
