Social Work Student Organizations

The primary purposes of the Washburn Student Social Work Association (WSSWA) and the Washburn University Graduate Social Work Association (WUGSWA) are:

1)  To promote student involvement, and develop a well-rounded scope of programs and events designed to coordinate academic life with eventual professional practice and to stimulate interest in social work as a viable career.
2)  To provide service in Topeka community agencies and programs through appropriate and available means.
3)  To cooperate with the Kansas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, (NASW), its standards, goals and projects, insofar as possible.

  • Buffalo Wild Wings Meet and Greet -- We had a great turnout and approximately 40 people attended.
  • Self-nominations for next year's officers are due to Tara Wallace by 3-25-13 at 5 pm.  Include what you are running for, a short bio, and why you are interested in running for this position.  Voting begins on 3-26-13.  See Tara Wallace for mor information.
  • Current fundraisers:  Tupperware -- see Jessica Espinoza for details; 31 Bags -- See Ashlie Boyett for more details

  • March 25 - WSSWA/WUGSWA MEMBERSHIP MEETING, 8:00 pm in Henderson 118.  Officer nominees are encouraged to come and introduce themselves to members of the group.  Tupperware fundraiswers closed today also!
  • April 1 - OFFICERS MEETING, 8:00pm in Henderson 118

  • March 25 - 2013-2014 WSSWA and WUGSWA OFFICER NOMINATIONS DUE by 5 pm.  Send your bio to tara.wallace@washburn.edu if you are interested in being an officer in our organizations.  We have accomplished A LOT this year and want to continue on this path.  It takes greatmemters.
  • April 1 - DONNA LOVE AWARD NOMINATIONS DUE by 5:00 pm.  May 2013 BSW and MSW graduates are encouraged to apply.  The recipient will be honored at the End-of-Year Banquet.  Application is available from Jessica Loveall. 
  • April 1 - 5:00 pm, DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR WASHBURN'S BIG EVENT.  Sign up for a day of volunteer work in our community.  Event sites and invormation can be found at http://www.mywsga.com/the-big-event/   There are several places to pick from and you get a FREE T-SHIRT!!  Spots fill up quickly, so sign up today!!
  • April 7 - EARLY REGISTRATION DUE for END-OF-YEAR BANQUET.  Contact Jessica Loveall for reservation form.  Money and forms can be turned into the SW Office (BE 412).
  • April 13 - WASHBURN'S BIG EVENT.  Enjoy a day with friends helping with vairous community volunteer activities.  Hours also go toward the 8 hours needed for organization.
  • April 26 - END-OF-YEAR BANQUET.  We have several activities planned for the evening; live and silent auctions, awards ceremony, Phi Alpha inductions, and 2013-2014 officers announced.  Banquet will be held at 6th Avenue Ballroom, on SW 6th St. between Kansas Ave. and Jackson, south side of street.
