Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology For Secondary Certification

To satisfy Kansas State Department of Education requirements for teaching certification in Biology (6-12), the State-approved program of the Biology Department at Washburn University requires that candidates fulfill the following requirements:

  • Completion of the field-specific courses required by the Biology Department (as listed below) or subsitutions therof, approved by the University Officer in the Education Department, in consultation with the Biology Department,
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale) in the teaching field courses,
  • Successful completion of the State competency test for certification in Biology.

The B.A. Degree in Biology for Secondary Certification requirements are:

  • Foreign language proficiency
  • University requirements:
    • EN 101 (3), EN 300 (3), KN 198 (2)
  • General Education Credits:
    • Humanities and Performing Arts (15 total credits)
    • Social Sciences (15 total credits), must include the following:
