The Writing Emphasis at Washburn University is for serious students of both practical and creative writing. It offers a range of rigorous courses in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry, plus a capstone course in which students edit and produce an issue of a nationally recognized literary journal, Inscape. Core faculty members Thomas Fox Averill, Sarah Smarsh, and Eric McHenry are all widely published and award-winning writers who bring knowledge, skill, and inspiration to the classroom.
