This concentration is designed to prepare the student for graduate study in the field or for those careers requiring the prescription of exercise. Preparation includes opportunities for fitness testing and exercise prescription with emphasis on obtaining the most current information and techniques available. Field experience opportunities include corporate, public and private exercise settings as well as cardiac rehabilitation program.
Students in this concentration are prepared for a career in sport and activity-oriented businesses. Preparation includes a minor in business, a 6-12 credit hour internship, and coursework tailored to meet the student’s interests.
Although not offered through the Department of Kinesiology, the PTA program is recognized as a concentration area for the B.A. degree in Kinesiology. A formal application process must be completed. Contact the School of Applied Studies for details and application materials.
Students desiring a major in kinesiology, but whose particular interests within the field are not represented by one of the above concentrations are encouraged to develop their own concentration in consultation with an advisor. Examples include: journalism, for those interested in a career in sports information; psychology, for those having an interest in sports psychology; or arts, for those interested in the depiction of sport through artistic media.
