Master of Accountancy

Becoming a CPA opens doors to opportunities not only in accounting firms but also across the business landscape. martin teaching class The Washburn MAcc program offers two educational tracks that meet qualifying professional certification requirements while offering the student the path to a graduate level degree. To be licensed as a certified public accountant (CPA) in nearly every state, including Kansas, candidates for the qualifying exam must complete at least 150 credit-hours of education. The program also prepares students for the requirements for other professional certification examination such as the Certified Management Accountant Examination (CMA) and the Certified Internal Auditor Examination (CIA). Washburn’s MAcc Program prepares students to enter or advance careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, management accounting, and governmental accounting, as well as corporate finance, financial analysis, and law enforcement.

Two Tracks

The 3+2 Track is available to qualified, currently enrolled Washburn undergraduate accounting majors who have reached senior status and have completed other specified requirements. This track is also open to transfer students and Washburn students who complete additional admission requirements. These students complete a 124 hour undergraduate accounting degree while simultaneously fulfilling the 30-hour additional requirement for the MAcc.

The 30-hour Flexible Program is available to qualified students who have completed a bachelor degree equivalent to a Washburn University undergraduate accounting degree. This program of study can be completed in as little as twelve months or may be extended to be completed over a period of up to five years while taking one course per semester.

Starting Point

For most students starting in the fall semester is the best option due to timing of course offerings. However, a student may begin a part-time program in spring or summer semester also. Priority application deadlines are:

Fall: August 1
Spring: November 15
Summer: April 15
