Mitch Baker

Lean Six Sigma: Black Belt

MBA

Mitch Baker is the Associate Director for Customer Experience at the VA Health Resource Center (HRC) and has over 20 years of experience in continuous process improvement. Mitch received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Washburn University in 1995 and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Baker College in 2005.

Mitch completed the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Yellow Belt, Green Belt and Black Belt courses through Washburn University, has been involved in several LSS projects, and is currently championing the implementation of Lean Six Sigma at HRC.

Ed Keating

Professional Engineer, MBA

Ed Keating has over 35 years of experience in manufacturing as an engineer and a manager. He is an electrical engineer with professional licenses in Kansas and Indiana. Ed received his BSEE from Kansas University and his MBA from Washburn University. He received his Lean Six Sigma: Black Belt from the Center for Organizational Excellence at Washburn University.

Ed has a diverse work background, having been employed by a major automotive company, a corrugated box plant, a pet food manufacturer, and as an electronics and nuclear power technician in the U.S. Navy. He has also done consulting work for various organizations, including current work with the Washburn Institute of Technology on a model of curriculum development for local business and industry.

Shawn S. Leisinger, J.D.

Shawn currently serves as the Executive Director of the Centers for Excellence at Washburn University School of Law. He also currently coaches competition teams, teaches courses and serves as the Director of the Externship Program. Prior to coming on board at Washburn Law full time in 2010, he served as an adjunct coach and professor at Washburn for seven years and he has well over a decade of experience as a governmental lawyer for state and local governmental entities. Shawn holds a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Wichita State University (1993) and a J.D. from Washburn University School of Law (1999).

He is actively engaged in non-profit work and community service. He regularly teaches a course on the legal issues of non-profit board management for those interested in serving on non-profit boards in partnership with Washburn and the regional United Way organization. He also provides pro bono legal work and consultation for a number of local non-profit organizations.

Tracy Routsong

Leadership Development: Conflict Strategies and Image Resolution

Tracy is a Professor of Communication Studies, is Chair of the Institutional Review Board, teaches the introductory communication course in the Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership, and is a regular contributor to the Leadership Washburn program. Tracy has served in an array of leadership roles at Washburn and other universities, as well as in the community. Students selected her to be an honorary member of Mortar Board for her teaching and she was given the Student Life Achieving Excellence Award. Her Master of Arts in Organizational Communication specialized in crisis communication with special consideration toward the tactics of image restoration. She earned her Ph.D. in Interpersonal Communication specializing in health and family, research methods, and communication theory. Tracy was awarded a Lean Six Sigma: Green Belt by Washburn University.

Chris Taylor, Ph.D.

Chris Taylor is a Management and Program Analyst for the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 7 office in Lenexa, Kansas. As a Senior Lean/Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belt on the Region’s Process Excellence (PEx) Team he serves as the Project Lead for identifying, scoping and implementing Lean/Kaizen projects in the Region, as well as developing tools/techniques and facilitating/co-facilitating customized Lean/Kaizen events. He also creates and provides developmental training for the PEx Team and has partnered with several State environmental agencies to provide training on value stream mapping and conducting Lean/Kaizen events. Prior to joining the EPA, Chris spent 10 years as an environmental program/project manager specializing in the development and sustainment of EMSs for numerous federal agencies. He retired from the Air Force after 24 years of active duty and reserve missile operations and bioenvironmental engineering assignments at the installation, major command, and Air Staff levels.

Chris received his BS in Systems Science (Biomedical Engineering) from Michigan State University, an MS in Physiology from the University of North Dakota, and a Ph.D. in Molecular & Cellular Physiology from the University of Cincinnati. He is a Certified Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers and completed both his Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt certifications through Washburn University’s Center for Organizational Excellence.

Doug Von Feldt

Certified Project Management Professional

Doug Von Feldt is the primary developer of the curricula used by the Center for Organizational Excellence at Washburn University and serves as the lead instructor/consultant. Doug has over 20 years of experience leading projects and change initiatives in industries including manufacturing, distribution, education, and retail.  He has held senior leadership positions including CIO of two different organizations along with other leadership roles in the areas Continuous Improvement, Innovation, Project Management, and Operations. Doug’s current work focuses on helping organizations become more profitable by aligning work processes, people, and culture to achieve operational effectiveness and efficiencies. 

Doug has helped numerous companies implement Continuous Improvement, Project Management, and Innovation programs.  He has authored training material in several disciplines including Lean Six Sigma and Innovation and has taught thousands of people all over the world. He regularly speaks at conferences in the areas of lean six sigma, process improvement, innovation, and project management. He is a contributing author to the book "Next Level Supply Management Excellence: Your Straight to the Bottom Line® Roadmap" (J. Ross Publishing).

Doug holds a BA in Computer Information Systems from Washburn University.  He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and a certified Project Manager (PMP).  He is a senior member of the American Society of Quality and has been a Baldrige Performance Excellence Program examiner.
