
One of the best ways to begin your Washburn Leadership Experience is by getting involved in our academic programs. Whether you're interested in taking a class, pursuing the Leadership Studies minor, or anywhere in between, the Leadership Institute wants to help you reach your full leadership potential.
Our programs emphasize the importance of learning about leadership and putting that knowledge into practice. Students in the classroom study everything from leadership theories and models to personal leadership potential. Once they've developed an understanding of leadership, students have the opportunity to apply what they've learned and gain valuable leadership experience through Leadership Institute, campus and community activities.
As outlined in the Core Leadership Philosophy, the Leadership Institute takes an integrative approach to the education, experience and empowerment of personal leadership development. Three multidisciplinary leadership courses and one leadership internship experience constitute the core curriculum of the Leadership Studies Certificate Program. Each course has a primary focus and emphasis, but all courses work toward the following interrelated goals:
