Leadership Challenge Event®

LCE® Orientation

The Leadership Challenge Event® will kick-off Thursday with a leadership orientation geared specifically toward regional high school students and college students from across the country. It will be a half-day introduction required of all participants who wish to compete in the simulated part of the event. 

The Leadership Introduction is comprised of invigorating and educational experiences that reflect our community and regional leaders. This introduction will provide a unique opportunity to all participants and allow them to experience leadership in a professional and applicative scenario.

This introduction is designed to give participants useful information and tools that they will not only explore, but that they can apply during the simulation the following day. It is designed to stimulate leadership students who wish to enhance and further develop their leadership skills and application.

A banquet will be held Thursday evening on Washburn University's campus in the Washburn A and B rooms. The banquet will be an opportunity for participating students to network and mingle with other participants as well as community professionals and volunteers. The dinner will also feature a key-note speaker.

Key-Note Speaker: Jason Kander

Jason Kander, 31, was sworn in as Missouri's 39th Secretary of State in January 2013. A former U.S. Army Captain, Jason is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. Prior to his election as Secretary of State, he practiced law, represented Kansas City in the Missouri General Assembly, and served on the Missouri Veterans Commission. He is a graduate of American University and Georgetown Law School and is married to his high school sweetheart, Diana. He is America's youngest statewide elected official.

Programming following the banquet will be available for participating teams only and will provide teams with additional information that will be pertinent to their success in the following day's competition.
