Scholarships for Incoming Students


Each year the Leadership Institute awards Leadership Scholarships to students based on:

  • A record of academic achievement
  • Evidence of leadership initiative at school and in the community
  • Demonstrated social and communication skills

Yearly scholarship values typically range from $500 to $2,000 and are renewable for up to four years for a total scholarship package ranging from $2,000 to $8,000. In order to renew scholarships, students must meet scholarship requirements indicated below. 

Application Process

1.  Submit the following documents with a postmark on or before December 8, 2017 to:

  • Washburn Application for Admission and Scholarships 
  • Official high school and/or college transcripts sent directly from your school to Washburn Admissions
  • ACT or SAT test scores sent directly from your school to Washburn Admissions
  • Leadership Scholarship Application
  • Personal resume that highlights your leadership accomplishments
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one letter must be from someone who has directly observed your leadership abilities and skills)
  • Typed essay

2.  Finalists will be notified no later than January 12, 2018.

3.  Participation in Interview Day on February 2, 2018 is required for all selected finalists.

4.  Scholarship recipients will be announced no later than March 15, 2018.  Scholarship recipients accepting the Leadership Scholarship will then agree to the scholarship requirements and responsibilities.
