Agenda Item No. V. B. 4. a.

Washburn University Board of Regents

SUBJECT: Sound System for Bianchino Pavilion Project

BACKGROUND:

An audio sound system was included as an alternate in the bids for the Moore Bowl Addition/Renovation project but was not selected at that time. The alternate bid for the sound system exceeded the allocation budgeted. It was decided the University along with the architects would work separately with vendors for the provision of this system. During negotiations, only one vender was able to provide a system that came within the budgeted allowance, Smith Audio Visual, Inc.

DESCRIPTION:

In an effort to provide a sound system that came within the allowable budget for the project, Smith Audio Visual presented a "cookbook" approach by listing numerous sound options and associated prices. The University staff and project architect configured a system that in addition to providing a PA address system/game broadcast to the exterior building along the concourse, grandstand seating and the suites, allows for multiple channel (4) selection in the two (2) hospitality rooms. Selection can include radio, PA or CD sound in those two (2) areas.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

The budget allocation for the sound system was $80,000. Final pricing on the system described is $79,454. This system is within budget parameters.

RECOMMENDATION:

President Farley recommends the Board of Regents approve the purchase of the sound system to be provided by Smith Audio Visual Inc. in the amount of $79,454.
