SUBJECT: WITHDRAWAL POLICY
Description: The following are proposed changes to the University's Withdrawal Policy.
1. "For semester courses a student may withdraw through the second week with no recorded grade. From the third through the eleventh week a "W" is recorded for any dropped course. Beginning with the start of the twelfth week, there are no withdrawals, and a grade will be assigned for the course." (This would replace current language found on page 16 of the 2002-2003 Catalog.)
2. "For information on medical withdrawals, see page 33. Complete withdrawals from the University for non-medical reasons follow the same policies and deadlines as course withdrawals." (This would replace current language found on page 17 of the 2002-2003 Catalog.)
3. Add to the medical withdrawal statement on page 33 of the 2002-2003 Catalog the following sentence: "If a refund of tuition and fees is granted for medical reasons, a grade of "W" will be assigned for all courses for that semester/session."
The University Council approved the proposal on December 10, 2002.
The General Faculty approved the proposal on January 30, 2003.
RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends Board of Regents approval of the changes in the University Withdrawal Policy.
