SUBJECT: ALTERATION IN CURRICULUM FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MUSIC DEGREE
DESCRIPTION:
The National Association of Schools of Music, the national accrediting body for Music programs, conducted an on-site visit in 2003. One of the issues that they noted was the fact the WU's B.A. degree in Music does not "specifically require" students to participate in large and small ensembles. Although the common practice is to fulfill their elective credit requirements with large and small ensemble hours this change makes the requirement specific. The current requirement of Music electives (8 hours) changes to:
Large Ensemble 3 hours
Small Ensemble 1 hour
Music Elective 4 hours
The proposed change meets the requirements of the NASM and does not change our current degree in terms of current practice.
The University Council approved the proposal on April 12, 2005.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends Board of Regents approval of the proposal for the alteration in curriculum for Bachelor of Arts In Music Degree pending General Faculty approval on May 5, 2005.
