SUBJECT: Renovate Restroom at International House
The International House is a hub for the international community at Washburn and throughout Topeka. International Student Services, Study Abroad, Intensive English, Phi Beta Delta, Faculty Abroad, the Brown Bag Lecture Series, Foreign Film Series, International Club and French Club are all based within the International House. In addition, many campus groups use the house for meetings, social functions, receptions and honor recognitions. Many community groups also use the house under the sponsorship of campus departments. The popularity and heavy usage of the facility make it important for the total facility to be ADA accessible to the public. Currently access to the building is ADA compliant but the restroom is not.
Proposals were solicited to renovate the restroom to make it accessible and to provide better flow through the building in the congested entry area. Alternate bids were received for replacement of carpet in the great room, stair and balcony. Bids were received from three contractors but one of the bids was subsequently withdrawn. The following is a break down of those bids.
Bidder Bid Alternate
Bob Florence Contractor, Inc. $ 61,251.00 $ 9,421.00
Senne Company, Inc. $ 62,250.00 No Bid
D.F. Osborne Construction, Inc. Bid Withdrawn Bid Withdrawn
Expenditures of $ 61,251.00, base bid and $ 9,421.00, alternate bid, for a total of cost of $70,672.00. The project budget is $ 68,000.00 from the 2003/2004 Capital Improvement funds. The remaining $2,672.00 will come from General Funds for operation of the International House.
President Farley recommends the Board of Regents approve the contract award to Bob Florence Contractor, Inc for the renovation of the restroom at the International House.
