SUBJECT: REVISION TO THE ACTUARIAL SCIENCE TRACK IN MATHEMATICS

Description:

The Department of Mathematics proposes revision of the Actuarial Science track in Mathematics.

Current Requirement: The track in Actuarial Science currently requires students to complete three of the following School of Business courses:

BU 374, Principles of Risk and Insurance

BU 375, Property and Liability Insurance

BU 378, Life Insurance

BU 475, Theory of Insurance

The latter three courses have not been regularly offered by the School of Business the past two years.

New Curriculum: The proposed curriculum requires Actuarial Science students to complete:

BU 374, Principles of Risk and Insurance

BU 381, Business Finance

BU 483, Investments

BU 381 is required of all B.B.A. students and is offered about three times per semester. BU 483 is required of all finance majors and is offered twice per year.

The proposal was approved by the General Faculty on May 4 , 2006.

President Farley recommends Board of Regents approval of the revision to the Actuarial Science Trace in Mathematics.
