Agenda Item No. V. B. 4.
Washburn University Board
of Regents
SUBJECT: Chapel Naming
DESCRIPTION:
Since the spring of 2003,
Washburn University has been engaged in a project to receive the chapel from
the Menninger Foundation, transport the building from Menninger to campus, and
install and improve the chapel for use by Washburn University. Washburn had a budget of approximately
$450,000 for this project: $400,000 from fundraising and $50,000 from
University reserves for landscaping enhancements. We now have a beautiful chapel at the heart of our campus. We will recognize all those who have been
part of this building=s history and
future. We will specifically
acknowledge Irene Nunemaker and the Menninger Foundation through photos and
displayed historical accounts showing the heritage and odyssey of the chapel.
Upon receiving the gift
of the building, it was understood that significant fundraising would be
necessary to cover the capital cost of making the chapel appropriate for use on
campus following the move.
Washburn=s and WEA=s policy on naming
facilities allows the entity making a single gift of at least half of the
project fundraising goal may request a name for the facility.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The largest gift to this
project is tied to the naming privilege.
