Agenda Item No. V. B. 4.
Washburn University Board of Regents
SUBJECT: Employee Wellness Program
DESCRIPTION:
The Employee Wellness Committee Chaired by Dr. Roy Wohl presented information in September 2005 to the Board on the work of the committee to develop an employee wellness program. The Wellness Committee undertook additional research and has prepared a substantive report outlining what other schools and employers are doing. The attached packet includes:
The design of the program
Answers to questions posed by the Board
Budget
Educational materials specific to wellness programs
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The first full budget as presented is $180,310 with an industry calculated expectation of health care cost savings of between $3.48 and $5.90 per dollar spent. Future insurance premium cost increases are expected to be mitigated by having a healthier university insured employee pool.
RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends Board of Regents initiate an Employee Wellness Program and approve the 2005-06 budget available from Regent's reserve.
