SUBJECT: Award of Contract for Memorial Student Union Renovation
Bids were solicited for renovation of the Memorial Student Union. Three general contractors submitted bids.
Tabulation Sheet A identifies each bidder along with base bids and bids for alternates.
University staff and the project architects have analyzed the bids. Alternates were considered and all were selected based upon cost and value added to the project. The selection of alternates did not change the low bid.
The bids are compatible with the total LLC financing plan. Funds are available as originally indicated on Attachment B. When the Board earlier approved this project, a provision was made that either private fundraising or University reserves would be available to complete project funding. We are at the initial stages of fundraising activities. In order to comply with the Kansas cash basis law, the uncommitted over-collections of FY00 sales tax ($858,000) has been earmarked as coverage until fundraising is complete.
If a bond issue is subsequently issued for which this project will qualify, it is our intention to refund all or a portion of the additional $2.4 million allocated for this project which is detailed on Attachment B as Capital Improvement Funds/Sales Tax ($1,155,406) and Fundraising/University Reserves ($1,282,927).
President Farley recommends the Board of Regents approve awarding the contract to McPherson Contractors for the base bid and selected alternates in the amount of $1,912,200.
