BOARD OF REGENTS
MINUTES
January 31, 1997

I. Chairperson Roth called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. in the Kansas Room of the
Memorial Union.
II. Present were: Mr. Dick, Mr. Engel, Mr. Felker, Mr. Ferrell, Mr. Maag, Mrs. Parks, Mrs.
Porter, Dr. Robinson and Mr. Roth.
It was moved and seconded to recess to Executive Session for the purpose of discussing a
personnel matter and to reconvene in open session at 6:56 p.m. in the Kansas Room of
the Memorial Union. The Board recessed to Executive Session in the Lincoln Room. At
6:50 p.m. the Board reconvened in open session in the Kansas Room of the Memorial
Union. An announcement was made that the Board had been meeting in Executive
Session for the purpose of discussing a personnel matter and that no action had been
taken.
Mrs. Parks moved, and Mrs. Porter seconded, that Jerry B. Farley be appointed by the
Washburn University Board of Regents as its next President. Motion passed unanimously.
Chairperson Roth noted that the University had scheduled a news conference to occur in
the lower level of the Memorial Union and indicated that it was his understanding that Dr.
Farley would be available to greet members of the public, Search Committee and Regents
following the news conference.
It was moved and seconded to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
