SUBJECT: Faculty Personnel
At the end of the Spring 2001 semester, Dr. Larry Halford retired as Chair and Associate Professor of the Sociology and Anthropology Department after 29 years of service to Washburn University.
Dr. Halford joined the faculty of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology as an Assistant Professor in 1972, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1980. He served as Department Chair from August 1997 until his retirement. He was an asset to the department through his teaching of Collective Behavior, Research Methods, Sociology of Sport, and Culture, Health, and Illness. He was responsible for introducing the Sociology of Sport into the curriculum, where it flourished. Dr. Halford also published and participated in scholarly professional circles.
The title Associate Professor Emeritus is recommended in recognition of Larry Halford's long and distinguished career, for his contributions and leadership as department chair, and for his record of 29 years of contributions to the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and Washburn University.
President Farley recommends that the Board honor Dr. Larry Halford with the title, Associate Professor Emeritus.
