SUBJECT: Faculty Personnel
At the end of the Spring 2002 semester, Dr. Susan Hsia will retire as Associate Professor in the School of Nursing after 27 years of service to Washburn University.
Dr. Hsia joined the faculty of the School of Nursing as an Instructor in 1975. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1979 and Associate Professor in 1990. Dr. Hsia is the remaining member of the original faculty. She has consistently demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. She has developed and taught a wide variety of courses in the core curriculum, and has created innovative electives. She was selected by the graduating seniors of the December 2001 class to receive the Excellence in Teaching Award for the School of Nursing. Her service activities are extensive and include broad involvement with the School of Nursing, the University, and the Topeka community. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Hsia has served on numerous university committees, and mentored the School of Nursing through the development of their outcomes assessment strategies.
The title Associate Professor Emeritus is recommended in recognition of Susan Hsia's long and distinguished career, and for her record of 27 years of contributions to the School of Nursing and Washburn University.
President Farley recommends that the Board honor Dr. Susan Hsia with the title, Associate Professor Emeritus.
