SUBJECT: Faculty Personnel
At the end of the 2001 Spring semester, Dr. Harry J. Nagy will retire as a Chair and Professor of the Physics and Astronomy Department after 28 years of service to Washburn University.
Dr. Nagy joined Washburn University in 1973. He served as Department Chair from 1985 to 1988 and from 1998 until his retirement. He has also served on numerous University committees throughout his tenure. His service to the community has been performed through the popular observatory open houses and planetarium programs.
Dr. Nagy has published 11 research papers in the Physical Review C, one of the top journals within the physics community. These and other research projects have provided the opportunity for numerous students to participate in meaningful research at the undergraduate level. His demand for excellence on the part of his students is exceeded only by his demand for excellence on himself.
The title Professor Emeritus is recommended in recognition of Harry Nagy's long and distinguished career, for his contributions and leadership as department chair, and for his record of 28 years of contributions to the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Washburn University.
President Farley recommends that the Board honor Dr. Harry J. Nagy with the title, Professor Emeritus.
