SUBJECT: Faculty Personnel
At the end of the 2001 Spring semester, Dr. Darrell R. Parnell will retire as Associate Professor of the Physics and Astronomy Department after 39 years of service to Washburn University.
Dr. Parnell joined Washburn University in 1962. During his tenure, he served as Department Chair for 20 years. In 1997, he received the Ned N. Fleming Teaching Award. He has served on most University committees. His service to the community has been performed through giving numerous astronomy presentations to groups of school children and hosting observatory open houses for the general public and specific events. He has directed many students in research projects, both in physics and astronomy and has devoted many hours assisting guiding students into becoming competent scientists.
The title Associate Professor Emeritus is recommended in recognition of Darrell R. Parnell's long and distinguished career, for his contributions and leadership as department chair, and for his record of 39 years of contributions to the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and Washburn University.
President Farley recommends that the Board honor Dr. Darrell R. Parnell with the title, Associate Professor Emeritus.
