DESCRIPTION:
At the end of the summer semester, 2000, Dr. Marilyn L. Geiger will retire as Professor of the History Department after 38 years of service to Washburn University. Her contributions include developing the American history curriculum for the colonial and revolutionary period, and providing guidance for majors seeking secondary social studies certification. She served as the university liaison with the state and national Councils of Social Studies, directed the annual district History Day, sponsored NONOSO, and represented the department and Social Science Division on numerous committees.
The title Professor Emeritus is recommended in recognition of Marilyn Geiger's long and distinguished career, for her contributions and leadership as department chair throughout the 1980's, and for her record of 38 years of contributions to the Department of History and Washburn University.

RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends that the Board honor Dr. Marilyn L. Geiger with the title, Professor Emeritus.
