SUBJECT: Faculty Personnel
On June 30, 2002, Dr. Robert T. Soppelsa will retire as Professor of the Department of Art, and Director of the Mulvane Art Museum after 21 years of service to Washburn University.
Dr. Soppelsa joined the faculty of the Department of Arts and Theatre Arts as an Assistant Professor in 1981. He received tenure in 1986, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1987, and Professor in 1991. In August 1995, he assumed the duties of Acting Director of the Mulvane Art Museum, and was appointed Director in January 1996. Under his leadership, the Mulvane has thrived, drawing larger audiences and greatly increasing its outreach through community education programs. Throughout his career, Dr. Soppelsa distinguished himself as an instructor, effectively passing on his passion for art to thousands of students.
The title Professor Emeritus is recommended in recognition of Robert Soppelsa's long and distinguished career, for his contributions and leadership as Director of the Mulvane Art Museum, and for his record of 21 years of contributions to the Department of Art and Washburn University.
President Farley recommends that the Board honor Dr. Robert T. Soppelsa with the title, Professor Emeritus.
