Washburn University Board of Regents

SUBJECT: TELEPHONE REGISTRATION SYSTEM

BACKGROUND:

In 1993 Washburn inaugurated advanced telephone registration using PC Based IBM DirectTalk Software linked directly to the Administrative AS400 computer based student enrollment system. This application has performed admirably with nearly 100% reliability. However, the system is now dated; runs on an obsolete 486 PC using OS2; and is linked to the AS400 using VAD language. The result is that the teleregistration system is no longer maintainable.

Students are comfortable with the teleregistration option, and it should be offered even after true on-line registration becomes an alternative. In addition, a number of other processes - fee payment for example, can be offered via the telephone system.
