The Psychology Department is proposing the following changes in the requirements for the Psychology Major. These changes reflect changes in the emphasis in the field, specifically the growth in the areas of Cognitive and Physiological Psychology and the incorporation of Motivation into Physiological Psychology.
Majors are required to take:
PY301 Principles of Learning or PY302 Motivation
PY306 Cognition or PY307 Physiological Psychology
PY309 Theories of Personality or PY310 Social Psychology
Majors are required to take 4 out of 5 of the following courses:
PY301 Principles of Learning
PY307 Physiological Psychology
PY309 Theories of Personality
PY310 Social Psychology
Although this is an increase in 3 hours of upper division work for the major, the number of hours required for the major will remain at 30.
The proposal was approved by the University Council on March 8, 2001.
The General Faculty approved the proposal April 25, 2001.
President Farley recommends Board of Regents approval of the change in requirements for the Psychology Major.
