Posthumous Bachelor of Social WorkDESCRIPTION: The Faculty of the Department of Social Work, and the Dean of the School of Applied Studies, request that Ms. Charita Christian be rewarded for her determination by posthumously granting her the Bachelor of Social Work.
Ms. Christian, a non-traditional student, began her academic work at Washburn University in Fall 1982. In Spring 1994 she earned an Associate of Science degree in Health Information Technology. At the time of her death, September 22, 1999, she had a 2.96 GPA and had nearly completed the Bachelor of Social Work.
Ms. Christian was very active in her community and as a student. She was viewed by her peers as a leader and supporter of other students. She took time to help others. Charita was described by instructors as mature, a leader, and having significant life experience and philosophy that grounded her practice. She was performing at the level of an "A" in her class.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None
RECOMMENDATION: President Farley recommends that the Board approve posthumously awarding the Bachelor of Social Work to Ms. Charita Christian.
