Agenda Item No. VI. B. 2. b.

Washburn University Board of Regents

SUBJECT: Faculty Personnel

DESCRIPTION:

Professor Rogelio Lasso, School of Law, requests a leave of absence for the Spring 2003 semester to be a Visiting Professor at Santa Clara University School of Law. Santa Clara University will pay to Washburn University Professor Lasso's salary, plus fringe benefits. Washburn will pay Professor Lasso on its regular monthly payroll, but a grant account established with Santa Clara University will be charged for his spring salary and benefits.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

Professor Lasso's budget line (32500-11-2) will contain funds for his 2002 fall semester salary. As noted above, the 2003 spring semester salary will be paid by Santa Clara University. A contract with Santa Clara University is being prepared. Should the contract not be signed by both institutions, or should Washburn University fail to receive funds from Santa Clara University, then Professor Lasso will be on an unpaid leave of absence for the spring semester.

RECOMMENDATION:

President Farley recommends that the Board of Regents approve the above faculty personnel leave of absence.
