BOARD OF REGENTS
June 12, 1996
I. Chairperson Roth called the meeting of the Board of Regents to order at 6:43 p.m. in
the Kansas Room of the Memorial Union.
II. Present were: Mr. Dick, Mr. Felker, Mr. Ferrell, Mr. Maag, Mrs. Parks, Mrs. Porter and

Presidential Search Consultant Firm Presentations
A.T. Kearney, represented by Shelly Weiss Storbeck, made a presentation outlining
the services it provides to higher education institutions seeking to employ high level
officers. Included in her presentation was a handout including sample
qualifications/characteristics statements for executive positions at other universities and a
publication outlining the services and personnel of A.T. Kearney. Spencer Stuart,
represented by David McCarthy, made a similar and included a handout listing searches
that his firm has conducted for college and university positions.
Following the presentations, it was moved and seconded to retain a search consulting
firm to assist the University in conducting the search for the next President with a firm and
at a fee to be negotiated. Motion passed unanimously.
The Board Chair appointed an ad hoc committee comprised of Regents Dick and Maag
to: (1) identify through reference checks and negotiation several potential search firms
including A.T. Kearney and Spencer Stuart which might assist the University in conducting
the presidential search; and, from the firms contacted, (2) make a recommendation to the
Board of Regents, of a search consulting firm, or firms from which the Regents might
select, to be retained. The ad hoc committee is to make its recommendation(s) to the
Board of Regents at a special meeting to be held Friday, June 28, 1996 at 8:30 a.m. in
Room 204 at Morgan Hall. Those Regents unable to attend the meeting in person may
participate via telephone conference call.
It was moved and seconded to adjourn. Motion passed unanimously. The meeting
adjourned at 9:23 p.m.
