Agenda Item No. VI. B. 5.
Washburn University Board of Regents
SUBJECT: Ratification of Purchase of Air Conditioning/Heating System in Football Locker Room at Petro
Board policy permits the chair and vice chair to approve the award of a contract prior to the next Board meeting due to time constraints. The Board, at its next regular meeting, may then ratify this action.
There is no air conditioning system in the football locker room to provide cooling in the summer, making it very uncomfortable for the football players to use this room in the summer and early fall.
The Board chair and vice chair have approved the installation of a new 30-ton gas heat/cooling system, using existing duct work, to provide cooling in summer and natural gas heating in the winter. The gas heating system replaces the old steam heating coil in the main duct. In order for the heating/air conditioning unit to be installed prior to the start of football practice, it was necessary to get approval prior to the July Board of Regents meeting. McElroy's was the only vendor contacted able to meet the aggressive time schedule.
Expenditure of $74,630 from FY03 Budgeted Capital Improvement account 03-00302.
President Farley recommends the Board of Regents ratify the purchase of an air conditioning/heating system for the football locker room from McElroy's, Inc.
