SUBJECT: White Concert Hall Renovation - General Construction, Project No. P-9969
Bids were received on June 6, 2000 for the renovation of White Concert Hall in the Garvey Fine Arts Building. This project includes modifications to improve sound and acoustical qualities within the hall and renovation of all seats, replacement of carpet, replacement of some wood paneling, new lounge furniture, and refurbishing the wood paneling in the lobby.
Due to the bids exceeding the proposed budget, negotiations were undertaken with the low bidder (Champion Builders) to reduce the scope of work for the project. These reductions included eliminating motorizing the acoustical ceiling shells, changes in the acoustical treatment of the rear wall, and the replacement or repair of selected sections of the wood paneling rather than replacing all the wood paneling. This reduced scope of work resulted in the reduction of construction cost from a bid of $1,094,000 to $705,850. Other low bids separate from construction cost were as follows:
CY Young $86,864
Zack Taylor $45,645
See attached for total project cost and scope. The acoustical towers will be rebid once recommendations and specifications are received from the acoustical consultant. This item will be brought to the Board for approval at that time.
Fundraising for White Concert Hall renovations resulted in $800,000 available for this project and an additional $200,000 for an endowment to fund future maintenance. The additional $194,985 needed to complete the project will be allocated from the Debt Retirement and Construction Fund.
President Farley recommends the Board of Regents approve the award of contracts for White Concert Hall renovation to Champion Builders for $705,850, CY Young Industries for $86,864 and Zack Taylor for $45,645 to complete renovations, seating and carpeting in White Concert Hall.
