SUBJECT: Master Control Switcher/Server for KTWU





DESCRIPTION:



KTWU is requesting approval to purchase a master control switcher/server for use with digital television. The AGV-1000 Master Control Switcher/Server is a sole source product manufactured by the Leitch Technology Corporation. The equipment provides immediate on-air digital television implementation with seamless splicing and insertion of compressed program material. The AGV-1000 is unique in that it can directly take the PBS digital television satellite delivered compressed data stream and insert locally generated program break material into the program, without decoding the data stream. It has a built in server.

The price of the equipment is $249,300.00.





FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:



Funding for the master control switcher/server will be from the following:



State of Kansas DTV Bonds 50% of purchase price.



Department of Commerce Public Telecommunications Facilities Program 40% of purchase price.



Funds from the KTWU Digital Capital Campaign fundraising 10% of purchase price.



RECOMMENDATION:



President Farley recommends approval to award a contract to Leitch Technology Corporation for $249,300.00.
