SUBJECT: Revision to Business and Financial Affairs Handbook: Student Employment
DESCRIPTION: Under current policy, Washburn University students enrolled in six or more credit hours per semester and Washburn University students completing a degree program requiring six or less credit hours shall be employed on the University Student Contract and shall be subject to the University Student Employment Policy. The effect of this policy is to preclude the University from hiring students in regular University positions for which they are qualified. There is no restriction on the number of credit hours a regular University employee may take. The University can hire students from other educational institutions in regular positions, and a change to this policy would allow Washburn to benefit its own students. It is proposed to revise the section of the Business and Financial Affairs Handbook on Student Employment to allow Department Heads to consider all qualified applicants, regardless of their student status.
