Agenda Item No. __________
Washburn University Board of Regents
Continuation of Phased Retirement Program
When the Phased Retirement Program was implemented in 1998, a sunset provision was included stating that the program would expire in June 2001 unless renewed.
The Phased Retirement Program has afforded the University a number of opportunities to make important staffing changes while allowing experienced faculty to continue to serve students. Through November 2000, nine faculty phased retirements and two administrative phased retirements have been granted.
It is important that phased retirements continue to be granted in situations where the best interests of the department and the University are being served. We request that the Board extend the Phased Retirement Program for an additional four years to be evaluated again prior to June 2005.
President Farley recommends that the Board approve extending the Phased Retirement Program through June 2005.
