SUBJECT: Printing of the Washburn Law Journal
DESCRIPTION: Bids were requested for printing the three issues of the Washburn Law Journal. The base bids of the three bids received were as follows:
Joe Christensen, Inc., Lincoln, NE $6787.22/issue
Western, Indianapolis, IN 5192.30/issue
George Lithographic, Brisbane, CA 9086.00/issue
The pricing for extras such as additional copies, additional pages, Authors alterations, etc. was comparable between Western and Joe Christensen, Inc. During the previous two years, the actual printing costs for the three issues per year was $25,747.62 and $28,516.73
Dean James Concannon and Editor-in-Chief of the 1999-2000 Law Journal, Brenda Mesker, reviewed the three bids, including the software packages necessary for producing the Law Journal. It was determined that the software package used by Joe Christensen, Inc. was a much easier package to use.
Prior to the 1998-99 Fiscal Year, Joe Christensen had printed the Law Journal for several years. During 1998-99, the contract was awarded to Darby Printing of Atlanta, GA. That company used an extremely difficult software program, and all three issues were delivered late. Darby Printing was not solicited to print the 1999-2000 Law Journal. The Dean and the Law Journal staff are comfortable with Joe Christensen, Inc., and their recommendation is to award the contract to Christensen. As part of the bid document, it was stipulated that the University reserved the right to negotiate with the successful vendor for the printing of the 2000-2001 Law Journal.
Funds are budgeted in the General Fund account, 01-32524.
President Farley recommends awarding the contract for printing the 1999-2000 Law Journal to Joe Christensen, Inc. The amount will be approximately $26,000.00
