SUBJECT: Gift Policy And Procedures Manual
DESCRIPTION:
The Gift Policy and Procedures Manual is the document that sates gift acceptance and naming policies for Washburn University. It applies to all departments.
The old manual was a compilation of Washburn policies that evolved over the decades with minor tweaks. When the University contracted with the Endowment Association (WEA) to coordinate fund raising for Washburn, it was updated to insert WEA or the WEA president, into the language instead of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, a position that was eliminated in the reorganization of the function. The result is a document that was hard to read and contradictory.
The WEA Development Committee in consultation with WEA Counsel, Charles T. Engel, recast the whole document and adopted formally the CASE (Counsel for Advancement of Eucation) guidelines for counting gifts and gift acceptance. (Case Management Reporting Standards).
The manual represents little change from previous policy, but does eliminate conflicting information and brings Washburn into full compliance with national norms of gift reporting and acceptance policies.
The policies include the following categories:
Purpose
I. Fund Raising Coordination for the University
II. Gift Acceptance
III. Gift Recognition
IV. Gift Opportunities
V. Methods of Giving
VI. Gift Valuation Policy
VII. Gift Processing Procedures
VIII. Conclusion
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None from the institutional budget, great from enhanced confidence-in-the-program that should support the quest for new gifts.
RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends approval of the Gift Policy and Procedures Manual.
