SUBJECT: Digital Television Transmitter for KTWU

DESCRIPTION:

KTWU is requesting approval to purchase a digital television transmitter. A digital television transmitter is required in order to comply with Federal Communication Commission requirements for digital television effective May 2003.

The following proposals were received:

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

Funding for the Digital Television Antenna will be from the following:

1. State of Kansas DTV Bonds (made available in July 2001) 50% of purchase price.

2. Federal Grant (PTFP) for DTV (allocated in September 2001) 40% of purchase price.

3. Local Funds from capital campaign fundraising 10% of purchase price.

RECOMMENDATION:

President Farley recommends approval to award a contract to Thales Broadcast and Multimedia for $487,968.
