SUBJECT: Living Learning Center Project - Fire Protection and Water Service Relocation

Connection of the new water services and fire protection for the Student Union and International Center must be completed in conjunction with the water main relocation. That work includes the construction of a water service line and meter for the International Center, and a water service, meter, and fire protection line for the Student Union Building. Re-piping within the Student Union is also included. This work needs to be completed in advance of the building construction in order to keep the project on schedule.

The following bids were received:

Young's Inc. $36,357.00

Emcon Inc. $51,772.80

McElroy's Inc. chose not to bid because of other commitments.

Because of availability of the contractor and the favorable weather conditions, work should start immediately. Board policy permits the Chair to approve the award of this contract prior to the next Board meeting. The Board may then ratify this action.

This item is within project budget as part of the site preparation.

President Farley recommends that the Board of Regents ratify the Chair's approval of the issuance of a contract for the lowest and best bid to Young's Inc. in the amount of $36,357.00.
