SUBJECT: Living Learning Center Project - site demolition and rough grading





DESCRIPTION: Preliminary site work is necessary prior to beginning actual construction of the Living Learning Center. That site work includes the demolition of part of Jewell Avenue and rough grading in preparation for the building construction. The recently completed Plass Street connection of the parking lots on the west side of campus is open for traffic.



Bids have been received for the demolition of a portion of Jewell Avenue and rough grading of the site. This work needs to be completed in advance of the building construction in order to keep the project on schedule.



The following bids were received:



Hermann's $63,665.00



Schmidtlein $78,200.00



Emcon, Inc. chose not to bid because of other obligations.



Because of availability of the contractor and the favorable weather conditions, work should start immediately. Board policy permits the Chair to approve the award of this contract prior to the next Board meeting. The Board may then ratify this action.



FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:



This item is within budget as included in the project budget as part of the site preparation.



RECOMMENDATION:



President Farley recommends that the Board of Regents ratify the Chair's approval of the issuance of a contract for the lowest and best bid to Hermann's in the amount of $63,655.00.
