SUBJECT: BACHELOR OF INTEGRATED STUDIES
DESCRIPTION:
The College of Arts and Sciences proposes changing the name of the Bachelor of General Studies Degree to Bachelor of Integrated Studies.
Rationale:
This name reflects more accurately the actual content of the degree and is in line with other similar programs at reputable institutions such as the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Chicago. Indeed, there is a 20-year old organization called the Association of Integrated Studies which Washburn University should join. Finally, the Bachelor of General Studies degree is associated with programs of less rigor and less academic integrity than the Washburn University degree.
General Faculty approved the name change on January 28, 1999.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends Board of Regents approval of the name change in the Bachelor of General Studies Degree to Bachelor of Integrated Studies.
