Agenda Item No. V. A. 6. b.

Washburn University Board of Regents

SUBJECT: Appointment of Interim Controller

The University's current Controller, Dolores Lewis, is retiring from the University March 31, 1999. A search for her replacement has begun, however, the review of applications will not begin until March 15, 1999, and it is anticipated that a new Controller will not be named until April 30, 1999. Therefore, it is necessary that an Interim Controller be named to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the Controller effective April 1, 1999 and continuing until the new Controller begins employment at the University.

The Vice President for Administration and Treasurer is recommending that Bill Radcliffe, the University's Budget Director take on the additional responsibilities of the Interim Controller effective April 1, 1999 and continue until the new Controller is on board. Mr. Radcliffe would be paid an $1,000 per month for these additional duties.

The Controller's position in the budget will be vacant effective April 1, 1999. The $1,000 to be paid the Interim Controller would be funded from the salary savings on the Controller's line. It is anticipated that an Interim Controller will be necessary for 2-3 months, depending on the availability of the new Controller to begin work at the University.

President Farley recommends Board of Regents' approval of the appointment of Bill Radcliffe as the Interim Controller effective April 1, 1999 with additional compensation of $1,000 per month.
