Washburn University Board of Regents
SUBJECT: Position Compensation Adjustment
DESCRIPTION:
At one time, Washburn University Athletics had one coach for both Volleyball and Softball. In 1995 this position was split and Washburn hired a full-time head coach for each sport. Both positions began with low salaries compared with the market.
This is a recommendation for a salary adjustment for the head softball and head volleyball coach, to help bring these salaries closer in line with other head coaches salaries and more comparable to head coaches of those sports salaries within the conference.
Each coach would receive an increase in salary of $1,633. This would make the salary for the softball coach, Kim Newbern, $28,105; and for the volleyball coach, Allison Jones, $30,297. Additional compensation to be paid December through June, rather than pro-rated.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None. Salary savings available from the hiring of replacement positions in the Athletics Department.
RECOMMENDATION:
President Farley recommends the Board of Regents approve the additional compensation for the two coaches, effective December 1, 1998.
