Announcements

Due to changes in Federal regulations it will no longer be possible to pay for prior fiscal year tuition with current fiscal year federal financial aid. This means that you will not be able to use your loans or other financial aid for Fall 2008 to pay for Summer 2008 tuition. If you enroll for Summer 2008 classes you will have to pay for them by the end of the Summer 2008 term in order to avoid a Business Office hold being placed on your account. We regret any confusion or inconvenience this change may cause.

If you withdraw from one or more classes in which you have enrolled, it may be necessary to return all or a portion of the Title IV financial aid (e.g. loans) that you have received for Fall 2008, as required by Federal regulations. This means that if you have received a refund of excess financial aid you will have to repay Washburn University for the amount of aid that has been returned. Please keep this in mind if you consider withdrawing from a class.

Please note that enrollment in Fall 2008 classes must be preceded by the payment of all outstanding charges on your student account, or establishing a repayment plan through the Business Office. BEGINNING WITH THE SPRING 2009 TERM, ALL OUTSTANDING CHARGES MUST BE PAID BEFORE ENROLLMENT CAN TAKE PLACE. Please begin to PLAN NOW so that enrollment in Spring 2009 classes will not be delayed.

Unpaid balances are subject to the imposition of late charges and may incur collection fees should we need to use a collection agency to recover the balance.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees for 2008-2009 are available here.

E-Bills

E-Bills will generated and available through the IBOD gateway beginning in mid-July. Financial Aid will not be on the bill until it is disbursed in August. Please note that the e-bills are accurate as of the day they are generated and may not reflect changes after that date. The "Current Balance" option on IBOD is updated in real time and will always have the correct balance due. NO PAPER STATEMENTS WILL BE MAILED. Students can print the e-bill to use as a payment voucher, or to submit to employers for reimbursement.

Payment of Tuition and Fees

Payment of charges on your student account can be made in a variety of ways. The most convenient method is to pay online through the IBOD gateway, available on the Student tab of MyWashburn. Payment may also be made by phone, by mail, or in person. If you have a parent or other person wanting to make an online payment on your behalf, you can set that person up as an authorized user in IBOD.

Financial Aid will be disbursed to student accounts beginning on August 11, 2008, except for law students: who will have aid disbursed beginning on August 15, 2008. Financial Aid will be disbursed only to students who have qualified for aid, accepted the aid, and completed master promissory notes and any other requirements from the Financial Aid office. Students are required to pay any balance on the student account not covered by DISBURSED financial aid.

Students anticipating payment of all or part of tuition and fees by a third party (e.g. military sources, SRS, Heartland Works, employers, etc.) must ensure that the Business Office receives confirmation of the reimbursement from the third party in a timely manner. Students are required to pay any balance on the student account not covered by a third party. Please note that promises to pay by relatives or friends do not constitute a third party payment.

Payment of all outstanding balances for Fall 2008 is expected by the first day of class, unless a payment plan has been set up in IBOD, or a third party payment contract has been set up in the Business Office.

Refunds of Tuition and Fees

When you enroll in one or more classes, you are incurring an obligation to pay for the class(es), just as with any good or service that you might purchase elsewhere. If you fail to pay for the class in a timely manner, you will incur penalties, including late fees, holds on your student account, and even collection fees if we need assistance in getting paid. Once you enroll, whether it be in person, online or with the help of University personnel, you must be prepared to observe the payment deadline, which is the first day of class. You MAY be eligible for a refund of tuition and fees if you withdraw within the refund schedule:

Through August 29, 2008 100% refund of tuition
August 30, 2008 - September 5, 2008 50% refund of tuition
September 6, 2008 - September 12, 2008 30% refund of tuition
September 13, 2008 - September 19, 2008 20% refund of tuition
After September 19, 2008 No refund of tuition

Please note that this schedule will be strictly observed. Only withdrawals made online or in person at the Registrar's Office will create eligibility for a refund. Failing to attend class or informing the professor that you will not be attending does not constitute a withdrawal, and no refund will be granted.

Refunds of Excess Financial Aid

Students who receive financial aid in excess of outstanding charges will be refunded the difference. Refunds will be based upon DISBURSED financial aid, not anticipated amounts. Questions concerning the disbursement of financial aid need to be directed to the Financial Aid office at 670-1151. Refunds will be available beginning on the following dates:

WU except the Law School
Law School
Direct Deposit
August 14, 2008
August 19, 2008
Paper Checks
August 15, 2008
August 20, 2008

Direct Deposit can be set up through IBOD. Using Direct Deposit means you will receive your refund faster and avoid two lines: one at the Business Office and one at the bank!

After the initial refund dates, refunds will be available on Mondays and Fridays.

Using Your iCard to Buy Books

Students receiving financial aid in excess of tuition and fees may have money deposited on their iCards to purchase books and supplies at the Bookstore. Students may request "Bod Bucks" through IBOD, available on the Student tab of MyWashburn. The amount that students may place on an iCard is:

  $500 Undergraduates and Graduates
  $750 Nursing Students
  $1,000 Law Students

The amount deposited on the iCard will be available beginning August 1, 2008. "Bod Bucks" are distinct from the Union Market meal money on the iCard, and can be used only in the Bookstore. Likewise, Union Market meal money cannot be used in the Bookstore.

Unused "Bod Bucks" will be refunded to the student upon graduation or withdrawal from Washburn University. The student must request a refund from the iCard Center and a $15 service fee is charged.
