How to Set Up a Payment Plan |
The Family Educational Rights
and Privacy Act of 1974
One of the federal laws under which Universities operate is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), enacted to protect the privacy of student educational records. Students have the right to inspect their records, and to amend any errors or inaccuracies. This process requires that the proper University Official be involved and that the student submit requests for access and amendments. Educational records include all records maintained by an institution pertaining to a student, including financial records and directory information. Directory information is considered public information and may be released to anyone unless you inform the Office of the University Registrar that you don’t want it released. Other educational records, including financial account records, cannot be released to anyone, even a spouse, parent, grandparent or guardian who pays for a student’s school fees, unless: the student provides written permission to allow that access; the requestor provides proof, in the form of a federal tax return for the current tax year, that the student is his/her dependent as defined by the Internal Revenue Tax code; or, such disclosure is otherwise permitted by law.. If the person you want to authorize has no email address, you may print a consent form. Please read it carefully and fill it out completely. You may bring it to the Business Office (link), mail it or fax it to us at 785-231-1054. You, or your authorized person, will need to tell the Business Office
staff that you've submitted a paper form and it will need to be located
before we will be able to speak to anyone other than you about your bill.
