ETC 1998-1999 Funding Priorities
The Electronic Technology Committee encourages all units submitting
requests for technology-related equipment from the Capital Fund Budget
for FY99 to carefully justify and prioritize the requests in terms of the
goals of the unit. In particular, the ETC will give priority to requests
that clearly show that the resources requested are consistent with the
strategic goals of the unit and with the University's technology development
plan, and:
-
are absolutely necessary for the continuance of an academic program or
support operation; or
-
would significantly improve student success; or
-
would make the delivery of curriculum or services more efficient; or
-
would be used to test new teaching techniques and/or delivery systems.
The ETC has identified several categories of equipment which, when justified
as stated above, would receive priority in funding. These categories are
meant to be helpful, but are not an exhaustive list of possibilities:
-
student lab enhancements (upgrade and maintenance of existing student labs,
additional workstations (including NCs, PCs, Macs, etc.), laser printers
or other hardware for the labs)
-
mediated classrooms (Connect mediated classrooms to the cable system, additional
mediated classrooms, visual presentation stands (ELMOs))
-
computers (computing devices for those faculty and staff who need them
but do not yet have them, or who have older devices that need replacement)
-
Printers (begin systematic replacement of older printers that do not have
adequate graphics capabilities)
-
software (software than can be used on existing servers to meet student/faculty
needs)
-
network enhancements (enhancements to continue to improve the speed and
reliability of the network)
Please note that some items requested in accordance with the above priorities
may go unfunded due to limits on resources. Over the past several years,
the total amount of money requested has been three times greater than the
amount available.
