Distance Education Subcommittee
Meeting Minutes

October 27, 1998

Members present: Thimios Zaharopoulos, Tere Leyell, Susan Hsia, Tim Peterson, Eugene Williams, Brenda White, Rebecca Bostian, John Christensen.

Others present: Kathy Frye

Peterson thanked those in attendance and gave a brief overview of the charges to the committee assigned to it by the Electronic Technology Committee. He then provided some background information on the draft distance education strategic plan and current distance education activities at the University.

Committee members discussed various aspects of distance education including its mission, the need for consistent and adequate faculty incentives, program examples, and its impact on traditional instruction. It was recommended that the strategic plan include professional associations as another potential market segment and that the draft "Distance Education/Mediated Course Development and Support Request" form be incorporated into the strategic plan.

White moved and Hsia seconded that the subcommittee recommend adoption of the draft strategic plan to the ETC. Christensen requested additional time to review the plan prior to voting. The Committee agreed to vote on the motion via e-mail by Tuesday, November 3.

The Committee agreed to meet again at 3:00 p.m., in Benton 401 on Tuesday, November 10 and December 8. The meeting adjourned at approximately 4:20 p.m.
