Key Policy & Services

The University attempts to distribute and control its keys in a centralized manner. Keys can be issued by the Director of Facilities Services only upon receiving a key requisition card which has been approved by the Department Head and which is in conformity with the Washburn University Business and Financial Affairs handbook. Faculty, staff and students desiring keys may obtain a key request card from the secretary in the Facilities Services office.

Any person who leaves the employment of the University shall check in all keys to the Facilities Services office before receiving his/her final salary check. Persons on leave of absence shall turn their keys in before leave commences. Part-time personnel shall turn in their keys at the end of their assignment. Students shall turn in their keys at the end of each semester.   Persons leaving for vacation or sabbatical may turn in their keys at the Facilities Services office for safekeeping.

Key Inventory:  At least once a year, the Facilities Services Director or his/her designated representative shall conduct a key inventory to verify all University keys issued to each key holder (employee or student). The proceedure for each yearly check will be determined by the Facilities Services Director. Key holders will have 2-months to complete each yearly key check.  If after the 2-months, Facilities Services has not received the proper response, key holders will be presumed gone and/or keys lost and a fee of $12.00 per key will be charged to the respective department.
