Snow Removal Services

During sleet and winter weather the Grounds Supervisor watches the forecast with the help of the University Police Department. As soon as snow or ice has accumulated, the grounds crew will begin removing the snow or ice between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. In order to speed up the work, the crews will be divided into three teams so they can remove the snow from the streets, the buildings and parking lots at the same time. The crews will try to complete most of the work before 7:30 a.m., before students, faculty and staff arrive.
  • Sidewalks are cleaned with mechanical brooms.
  • Contractor's Work: Private contractors remove snow on the parking lots between Plass Ave. to MacVicar from 17th to 21st street.
  • Custodians clean steps and entryways to their buildings.
Each snowfall is handled differently since each varies (in the amount, number of employees available, whether ice is involved etc.). All areas of campus are cleaned off as soon as the weather allows, in the quickest way possible. The grounds crew will remove the snow at the President's house as soon as they complete the work at the campus.
